About Shannon

A Practical and Personalised Approach

Shannon Briggs is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) with more than 15 years of experience supporting people through a wide range of mental health challenges.

His approach is person-centred, practical, and tailored to the individual. Rather than applying the same formula to every client, Shannon works collaboratively to understand each person's unique circumstances, strengths, challenges, and goals.

Shannon believes effective therapy requires flexibility, curiosity, and a willingness to adapt the approach to the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to the therapy.

Depending on a person's needs, therapy may draw on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and 12 Step Recovery principles.

Special Interests

Shannon has developed particular interests in ADHD, addiction recovery, anxiety disorders, phobias, and generalist mental health counselling.

A significant part of his work focuses on supporting adults with ADHD. He works with both diagnosed individuals and those exploring the possibility of an ADHD presentation.

His approach is strengths-based and practical, helping people better understand how their mind works, build systems that support success, improve emotional regulation, and develop greater confidence in their day-to-day lives.

He is particularly passionate about helping people move away from seeing themselves as broken, lazy, unreliable, or lacking discipline, and towards a more accurate understanding of both the strengths and challenges associated with ADHD.

Experience With Addiction Recovery

Shannon has extensive experience supporting people experiencing addiction and substance use concerns.

He has worked in drug and alcohol rehabilitation settings and has seen firsthand the impact addiction can have on individuals, families, relationships, careers, and overall wellbeing.

His work is grounded in the belief that people are capable of meaningful change when they are given the right support, insight, accountability, and practical tools.

He frequently incorporates 12 Step Recovery principles into his addiction work and strongly believes in the value of community, responsibility, honesty, and self-understanding throughout the recovery process.

A Collaborative Relationship

Shannon does not see therapy as a process where the therapist tells the client what to do. He believes clients are the experts in their own lives.

His role is to help people better understand themselves, identify the patterns that may be holding them back, and develop practical strategies that create meaningful change.

Clients often describe wanting therapy that feels practical and useful rather than overly clinical or disconnected from everyday life. Shannon's approach reflects this. He aims to create a space where people feel understood, challenged when needed, and supported in building a healthier and more fulfilling life.
